Arnold Rim Trail Current Status

The first 10.5 miles of trail (of the eventual proposed 35 mile ART trail loop) is now signed. It is located in the Stanislaus National Forest in an area named the Interface Forest and runs between the community of White Pines and Avery Sheep Ranch Rd. This section of trail has seen many recent improvements that include permanent signage with aluminum ART logo plaques, directional signs and place names affixed to 4x4 posts. As well, an Eagle Scout volunteer has built and installed a trail kiosk and two other high quality kiosks have been built with monies from Proposition 40, a state park bond. An interpretive panel is now being designed and will be installed at kiosks to help illustrate the vision of the Arnold Rim Trail and what visitors can expect to find along the trail.

Two other ART related projects are under construction—a segment of trail leading down into the San Domingo Canyon and an 8/10 mile American Disabilities Act high accessibility trail beginning at the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum in White Pines that takes one down into the beautiful San Antonio Creek Canyon and watershed.

You can find out more about these projects and acquire a provisional map of the current ART. As improvements are now underway that affect routing, a newer more user-friendly map will not be available until next trail season. If you don’t already know the area, please visit the Stanislaus National Forest Calaveras Ranger District Office in Hathaway Pines on Hwy 4 for orientation and the provisional map.  When leaving trail heads remember to stop at the many intersections along the way, study the signs and follow signed connecting trails to and from the main ART which is signed by 4x4 sign posts and permanent aluminum plaques with the ART logo on them.
